I've been breaking things down into simple steps for people for years.
First as a rehabilitative RN, I taught disabled patients how to care for their daily needs.
Then, as a haircolorist, I put control back into peoples lives by giving them the hair and color they desired. Now, I plan to launch a new business, Style Like a Pro, that teaches women and teens how to style and blow dry hair like a pro (hence the name) and gain control of how they look all the time, not only when leaving the salon. Below are some tips for beautiful healthy hair:
1.) Shampoo your hair ONLY every 2-3 days, how many times have we heard this?
*Scrub only the scalp.
*Do not scrub the ends of the hair, massage the shampoo through the ends to cleanse them. The more you scrub, the weaker and dryer your ends.
*To smooth the cuticle (outer layer of hair) moisturize from midshaft (1 ½ inches from scalp) through the ends of your hair. Rinse (10-30 seconds), until the hair feels SILKY, not squeaky clean or slick, SILKY.
*Towel dry and allow hair to air dry at least 15 minutes before blow drying
and do not apply any products yet!
2.) Starting at the back of the neck, blow dry the first 2 inches of scalp hair (roots)
until they are just dry. Then dry the right and left sides of your head.
3.) Now apply styling spray/gels/cream at the scalp for volume/control.
4.) Apply styling oils or crème to damp ends, after emulsifying them well in your hands.
5.) Blow dry the ends, using your head as a large round brush and a paddle brush to volumize and to begin to smooth out any wave or curl pattern. Finish with a round, oval brush or flat iron.
6.) When flat ironing always use a protective oil/spray on the top layer of hair. NEVER hold the iron in one position, always keep the iron moving.
7.) Curly hair (skip #5&6). Place the ends into the diffuser basket, starting at the neck, working up the back of head, right and left sides. Always do your hairline last.
Reapply curl enhancer/oil. Don’t pull on or palm curls, this creates fuzziness or too relaxed curls.
8.) To finish, hairspray inside the style to support volume or curl. Do not do helmet
spraying. You hairstyle could deflate from the weight of the spray.
