OMG! YOUR ROOTS ARE BRIGHT!

I'm talking HAIR COLOR! Didn't you ever see women/girls walking down the street with their hair radiating brightly from their scalp? All of these colors, red ,orange and yellow could be the color of your roots or in otherwords the first inch or two of new growth at your scalp leading into darker hair. This will occur especially if your hair has been tinted numerous times prior to this attempt at going lighter. Going from light to dark is easier than the reverse.

Let me tell you why going from dark to lighter is more difficult. And by no means am I saying not to do it. The first inch of new hair growth is able to react to the tint or bleach faster because of a warm scalp. After that first inch the hair gets colder (further away from the scalp) and the cuticle (outside layer) does not readily respond as fast to the tinting/bleaching product. Then if you already have tinted over the ends of your hair on even a bi-monthly schedule those ends will not lighten AT ALL like the roots.

For you Home hair doers or Kitchen Cosmetologists, lighten up the tint a half level each time you tint your roots and DO NOT PULL IT THROUGH YOUR ENDS. Or if you want to make that drastic of a change, then apply a haircolor remover. Boy, does that product smell like rotten eggs! Be careful to stay away from your new growth or just follow the directions.

For salon goers, your colorist may suggest doing some highlights on the ends to lighten the hair, or suggest just going lighter each month with tint or to use the color remover.

Just remember going lighter to darker as a definite color change is easy. But, going darker to lighter involves more thought. education and work.
HAVE FUN, GO FOR IT!
CHANGE IS GOOD!
