Shine of any kind is a wonderful thing. Shiny hair, a shiny smile, shiny eyes and a shiny car all signify health and abundance. What dulls these eyes, hair, smile and OK, car is lack of care. Lack of sleep, lack of appropriate food and commitment to the care of all theses abundances.
As for hair, there can be an overcommitment, bordering on obsession. Don't over shampoo, condition only needed areas of the your hair, only rinse for 10 seconds. Dry your hair with a dryer that's not on the highest setting and start at the scalp not the ends. Use product judiciously. Sometimes less is more. When we do more we sometimes remove the S-H-I-N-E from our hair, eyes, smile..... OK, not our car!

S-H-I-N-E What Is It and When Does It Occur?
As in my previous blog, we went over what causes "dull" hair. Now I'll go over what naturally contributes to shiny hair.
1. Straight hair has a tight cuticle (outside layer). When the cuticle is closed then the light reflects off the cuticle as "shine". Curly hair does not have the tight cuticle,(if it did the hair would not be curly).
2. No chemical processes on the hair. Not even semi-permanent color.
3. Regular haircuts, be it every 4 weeks to 10 weeks, removes frayed ends, so that the ends of the hair remains stronger.
Most of us cannot leave our hair alone. We may have to tint our hair, don't always have time to cut our hair and welike to change the color of our hair. In fact I have a client who claims to be a shine junky, because she does not see that natural shine that straight hair has. She is looking for that intense shine only found on TV commercials.
Darker hair shines more than blonde hair. The only time that I have seen blonde hair be intensely shiny was when a client regularly swam indoors without a swim cap. The hair had absorbed the pool chemicals and sealed the hair. Her hair did not turn green, because this client swam indoors. Sunlight turns the hair green.
If your hair feels silky and soft (not dry or crunchy) then your hair will shine.

Did Michelle shampoo her hair the morning after?
Would you have? I should hope not! Why?
Because her hairstyle is an easy universal style that can be reworked with ease. The morning after before Michelle steps into the shower she should spray Start Fresh Mist ( helps remove any environmental smells from hair and scalp, feeling refreshed) on her hair or on her scalp. Add a hint more moisture from the shower. Put on a shower cap. The heat from the shower and the moisture inside the cap will help to reconfigure her hair. In other words, her hair will absorb the moisture and it will more easily respond to her styling efforts. Styling should only take several minutes. More like fluff with the dryer and go. For Michelle and some of us with intensely curly/frizzy hair flat ironing the top layer of hair will be easier and gives the hair more shine.

Hasimoto's thyroiditis
As a haircolorist, I've had several clients with this thyroid disorder, and many more women with just darn dry and frizzy hair. I you to know that there are several products that would be good for your hair. They are SHU EUMURA MOISTURE VELVET SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER and KERASTASE OLEO RELAX serum. Yes, they are higher price point products, but if you use them as I advise you then there can be more moisture for your hair. You can at least improve how your hair feels.
Shampoo/scrub only the roots of your hair.
Massage the shampoo through the ends of your hair.
Never shampoo your hair twice.
Condition hair from midshaft through ends. Let on hair several minutes.
Rinse only 10 seconds. any longer rinsing with warm-hot water will cause your hair to lose whatever moisture your hair just acquired.
After towel drying, apply 3 pumps of Oleo Relax on your ends, then in the middle of your styling apply 2 more pumps. after completed styling apply 1 pump to seal in moisture.
I caution you to NOT 100% dry your hair ends before flatironing them. The feel of a HINT OF MOISTURE IN THE ENDS allows them to respond better to the iron.
Only shampoo your hair maximum every other day, better every second or third day.
You can use the serum 1-2 pumps every day on dry hair to keep hair supple and healthy looking.

Beyonce' at Pre-Inaugural Concert -WOW!
What an emotional Concert that was yesteraday! All the guest artists and speakers even from across the ocean. How truly global we are! and for Beyonce' to sing was just truly heart rendering. As in my previous 2 blogs, she is her brand , meaning the packaging is always so perfect. Just like she rolled off the assembly line. Yesterday, even though the packaging could have been wrapped in a coat in that 27 degree temperature, Beyonce' appeared less doll-like and more real (to me). I could see that she was amazed that she was even standing on the Lincoln Memorial and singing her heart out to the crowd. What an honor!
As for Beyonce's hair, yes it was pulled back in a her signature half-ponytail. But her highlights weren't done. Her dark hair is beautiful on her. Beyonce' looked like she could be one of us. Though as a colorist, I would say that she could have have had her blonde ends toned down. But then that would put her in that "Perfect" category that I have been commenting about. Perhaps she has been traveling and only trusts a certain colorist for her hair color. If she has been traveling Start Fresh Mist would be the product to be in her carry-on luggage, to neutralize the environmental smells from her hair, so frequent shampooing could be reduced.

Two Worlds Collide on the GG Red Carpet
I know it's getting a little far away from th Golden Globes, but.... How did they pair up Sigorney Weaver and Beyonce on the Red Carpet? Talk about the "I don't have anything in common with your world" vibe. Beyonce' looks, walks and talks her brand. Sigorney is an actress who loves her craft. She has no mega brand reaching into all areas of entertainment.
Putting the 2 together, showed that Sigorney must have gotten ready at home with very little make-up and in need of her styling to be finished. But...by the time she came out on stage to present she was radiant. I wish I could show you want I mean. On the Red carpet her face and chest were pale and her hair rather disheveled from the wind and the sunny skies washed her out. On stage she glowed.
As a footnote it would have been easy for Sigorney to view the video on Wavy shoulder length hair from Style Like A Pro. to get out the door easier. Remember one of my motto's, "More Knowledge, fewer confusing tools and products, better looking you."

Drew Barrymore's Hair, Makeup and Dress
There is an MTV blog that just slams her appearance and then her blue eyse shadow. The MTV blogger did admit that Drew's dress was lovely.
Now the hair was fun, flirty and the eyeshadow could have been more sultry and less 60's blue. Also in certain lighting blue on the face makes one look washed out. In the pictures on that site Drew's face is washed out and her roots are too dark. I'd say poor photography. Let's give Drew coodoes for at least changing her look for the evening and not just a safe cookie cutter appearance.

Zen art of Blowdrying - Not tonight! Drew barrymore at the GG!
I have to say.... the gowns were gorgeous but.... the hair ran the gamut from spectacular to mundane, even pedestrian. A big Yawn....
Now Drew must have been filming and came with that shortish blondish Marilyn Monroe style.
Alittle messy alot sexy. She certainly appeared to be saying "take Me home with you". I thought she looked too hot for her sweetish face, oh so grown up. at first I knew her but couldn't place her. drew was way cool!
Now for you to do her style at home is easy. Shampoo, condition ends only. towel dry. Blowdry the roots and shaft of the hair until it is 60% dry. (Style Like A Pro DVD's for simple everyday styling.) Apply styling lotion for body from roots to ends and use hair rollers about 1 and 1/2 inches in diameter on top of head reducing the roller size by time you reach your neck. Let air dry or heat with your hairdryer. Let the hair cool then pull the rollers out. Teaze your roots fluff and mist with Hairspray. Viola! You and Drew are twins.
