What is "Flat Ironed" Hair???

Let's break "Flat Ironing" down. What flat ironing versus "ROUND ironing? That's one way to start. when we say round we mean using a curling iron or rollers in our hair. To "flatten" means to smooth out the hair amke it less curly, less bulbous and/or less frizzy. It does not mean to make it flat to your head, looking limp without body.
Flat ironing should mean "smooth ironing". You can achieve some volume and heighth with a flat iron and minimal product. I'll take pictures and show you in my next blog or learn this technique from several of my DVD's at http://www.stylelikeapro.com . The DVD's are a great tool to assist you in learning interactively how to straighten or smooth your hair.

What's Easy, Fast and the Most Inexpensive Thing You Can Do for YOURSELF

Style Your Hair the best way you know how. But, and I mean a big BUT, most women from the age 12 to 100, never learned the best way to do this. By best, I mean fastest easiest way to style their, with the least amount of effort.
First you start with appropriately shampooed and conditioned hair.
Next, the fun begins. You aim the nozzle of the dryer at your scalp, pulling the roots of your hair straight up. Dry the roots 80% dry. Apply alittle product at scalp for volume if needed.
Third, paddle brush your from back to the front of your head using your head as the round brush. this smooths and elevates your hair.
Fourth, use paddle brush to pick up the hair on top of your head blowdry the roots again to create volume.
Fifth, with the hair shaft feeling cool, not cooked(dried out feeling) you can now use your straightening iron to smooth and curve your hair. You can create volume with the iron too.
done in under 10 minutes with a little practice.
If you like what I just told/taught you in a short synopsis, a longer version with visual indepth informationcan be seen in http://www.stylelikeapro.com Dvd's, they are totally interactive.
Enjoy and let me know what you like and not like.

What Has Been My Worst Hair Salon Experience? Continued...

So Leslie understands she's of a warm nature with her freckles. Also what is her preference or what shades of hair color makes her feel good. Most of us intuitionally know this, but some women respond negatively to warmth in their hair. (Let me not digress, that's a whole other issue.) Warmth should always be part of the equation when formulating her haircolor. It does not mean that the colorist use red, but maybe a gold or yellow in the formula. Only when hair looks brassy (copper penny tones) should a cool neutral be added. this relates to her all over color, a tint or low lights, not highlights.
As for lightening Leslie's hair with highlights, The ULTIMATE BLONDE highlights had to be bleach highlights. On her I would not use the ultimate lightener just a nice high lift tint that's neutral or gold. Leslie's hair will contribute warmth to her own color.
Now if the highlights are too light and bright, Leslie can go back and request a toner. A toner helps to refine the color of the highlights.
Ultimately, her appointment is a partnership with this stylist. If she doesn't feel good after consulting with them, leave. I recognize that's hard, but have your expectations outlined in your head. If that stylist meets 5 out of 7 points, then stay. Leslie could have said err on the side of warmth with depth or with lightness.

What has Been My Worst Hair Salon Experience?

This was told online.

Mine was with color. I have freckles. Hence, ash is not a good additive for me. I tell hairdressers that but they don't get it sometimes. So, once I went to a girl who charged me 300.00 in lowlights and I left looking like a corpse. My hair was all ash brown and she removed all the warmth from my hair. It was a disaster.Another time, I went to a colorist to go lighter for the summer. She used some ultimate blonde color. I told her no ash, but she must have used it because my widows peaks were grey when I left! She said it would blend out as I shampooed but of course it did not.

Answer: Let's call her Leslie. Leslie did have knowledge of her hair color, and skin coloring. It's important that she also know her eye color and what her lifestyle is like. Meaning, does she mind coming in every 4 weeks for color or does she want to push it to 3 months. What can she tolerate?

Next, what kind of warmth does she want to see in her hair. Freckles most always denote warmth, not necesarily "red". More tomorrow.

What has been your worst hair appointment.

Why Does Curly Hair get Frizzy in Wet Weather?

The simplest of answers is that the hair does not contain enough internal moisture to counteract the outside environmental moisture. If your hair had enough internal moisture then any outside wetness would just weigh the hair down, not frizz it out. But, when your hair is too dry it takes alot of wetness to make it heavy.
How do you keep our hair from getting frizzy in damp or wet weather? When moisturizing/conditioning our hair, apply it only to midshaft to ends, never the scalp. Then only rinse your hair for 10 seconds. Yes I said 10 seconds. I want your hair to feel SILKY, not squeeky-clean or slick. SILKY!when wet. Remember, your towel, hands and styling tools along with your hair dryer all attract moisture out of your hair. Also, before and while drying your hair apply a serum to your ends. Most serums retain that needed moisture. Do not over dry the ends with a hair dryer. Lastly apply 1-2 more drops of serum.
All my DVD's have the how to's on them.

Do You Go To Bed With WET HAIR?

DON'T!!!
Yes, I know it saves you time in the morning. Damp hair keeps you cool at night in case your body runs hot while sleeping. Well, at least I'm not drying out my hair with a hair dryer.
These are all reasonable time saving strategies.
Let me give you some reasons not to go to bed with damp/wet hair.
1. Hair when wet is structurally weaker, is elastic and can be stretched further than when dry.
Try it, Pull a dry hair between 2 fingers. It will lengthen a little or stay the same. If the hair does not lengthen at all and does not break, it is very healthy. After you shampoo and condition your hair ( as stated in previous blogs or on StyleLike A Pro DVDs ) pull on another hair, it will definitely lengthen and shrink back. That's called elasticity. Now if the hair does not shrink back automatically or at all, it means that hair is weakened. Weakened hair can be due to age of the hair, sun/wind exposure, dehydration from tools, products or chemicals.
2, When your damp hair is being rubbed between your head and the pillow, the hair is being stretched. The hairs' cuticle (outside layer) can not close. It is being attracted to the fabric, because the fabric is pulling moisture from the hair. When the elasticity of the hair remains stretched as the hair dries, there can be breakage and roughness to your hair. In the morning your hair will require more leave-in conditioners and will not respond as easily to styling. With roughened hair equals lack of S-H-I-N-E!
PLEASE DON'T GO TO BED WITH WET HAIR!

Have an awesome day!
